Among the most iconic mid-century furniture designers, George Mulhauser was one of the first recipients of an Industrial Design degree at Pratt (1953). This earned him immediate work with Herman Miller, alongside George Nelson, where he designed his famous Coconut Chair. With its clean lines and comfortable seat, it was an immediate success and signaled a new interest in relaxed, playful design for home furniture. It is held in museum collections worldwide. Mulhauser also designed for Paul McCobb before his work with Plycraft.
