Born in the Czech Republic, Hans Von Klier graduated from Industrial Design at the Hochschule für Gestaltung (HFG) in Ulm. Moving to Italy in 1960, he became a consultant for La Rinascente and began a design collaboration with Ettore Sottsass, producing office machinery and computers in Olivetti. In 1968, he became director of the Corporate Identity Olivetti and his books of 'Identification Systems' won the coveted Golden Compass prize. These books are still considered to be one of the first comprehensive concept packages for corporate design. Within the sphere of furniture design, he worked with Bilumen, FIAM Italia, Planula, Rossi di Albizzate, Skipper and Zanotta. Von Klier died in April 2000.
