The best of Scandinavian craft and design went into the making of this mid century PS Heggen Rosewood Waste Paper Basket. Designed by Einar Barne for PS Heggen of Norway circa 1965 from stunning rosewood. There is good clear grain throughout and a real vibrancy to the fiery tones of the wood. It is very sculptural but the real joy of this piece for me is in the contradiction between the beauty of the basket and it’s actual purpose.
Some say the allure of the mundane triumphs when in the hands of a true designer. It can be no wonder then that these baskets are so prized. This is a particularly nice example and it is in very good vintage condition. There is however just a minor mark below one of the handles which must be noted. I mention this for absolute accuracy but it does not detract from the overall impact.
The makers mark is stamped on the inside of the basket as per the photograph.
