This Warren Platner Lounge Chair is without doubt an icon of modernist design. American Architect and Designer Warren Platner designed this chair in 1966. It was part of his collaboration with Knoll International on the ‘Platner Collection’. They produced chairs, ottomans and tables as part of the series. This lounge chair has a multi steel rod design where hundreds of nickel coated steel rods are welded to a circular base. Especially relevant is the moire effect that these rods create. This encourages the rods to catch the light. Above all else, there is a graceful sculptural quality to the design of this chair. You can’t fail to notice how the strength of the steel is perfectly complemented by the luxe velvet of muted tangerine.
It is this timeless design that ensures this chair will look as fresh and as exciting as it did over 50 years ago. There is no denying the great triumph in the design of this piece. This stunning lounge chair is in excellent vintage condition. A luxurious tangerine velvet has been used to re-upholster the chair. Graceful, airy, sculptural and fun. Platner’s love of the sculptural can’t fail to shine through.
